The Fashion Police star, who turned 28 on Sunday, apparently didn't see what the point was of Lady Gaga showing up on the U.K.'s X Factor and presenting her mom, Sharon Osbourne, with a birthday cake in celebration of Kelly's big day.
"Not to be ungrateful but why would you send me a birthday cake via my MOTHER in a country half the would away? #JustSendItToME #LoveNotWar," Kelly tweeted yesterday afternoon.
The resentment quickly escalated via Instagram, where Kelly posted a picture of what presumably was Gaga's cake (maybe her mum sent her a pic) with "Happy Birthday Kelly" scripted in icing on the top, and wrote, "#EatMyS--t #Hypocrisy."
"#StefaniStopIt," she added, using Gaga's real first name.
Cue the little monsters who flocked to Gaga's defense on Twitter, some of them less vitriolic toward Kelly than others...but a lot of them pretty darn harsh.
A lot of Gaga fans used the #StefaniStopIt tag as well, such as @GagasNYTan, who wrote, "@KellyOsbourne: #StefaniStopIt!" Literally how can u b so hateful like she is honestly the sweetest person in the world and u started this!"
About an hour after her first round of tweets, Kelly wrote, "I live for a #Cause not for the #Applause!!!!!!!" namechecking Gaga's latest single. "Guys, don't hate me, it's a guilty pleasure…like #SimplyRed!"
"I like desert [sic], but i prefer the truth… it's sweeter," she added.
The birthday girl's final tweet on the matter (and since yesterday) was: 'Let them eat cake' #MarieAntoinette."
Gaga, meanwhile, didn't seem to be losing her head over the matter.
Her contribution to the mostly one-sided conversation appeared to come right after she was labeled a "#Hypocrite," with the eccentric pop star tweeting, "Monsters, please just focus on the positive of tonight's performance and do not send any hateful messages. I don't support it. #SpreadLove."
In case this seems particularly random, remember that it was actually Sharon Osbourne who had a beef (no pun intended) after Gaga penned an open letter accusing Kelly of being a bully following a particularly harsh Fashion Police critique.
"Your open letter is hypocritical and full of contradictions...How sweet that you have empathy for my daughter, as you feel that she has taken a less passionate path in life. You say her work on E! with the Fashion Police is 'rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people's beauty against one another.' Welcome to the real world," Sharon wrote on Facebook back in January.
"Example, when I saw you wear a dress made out of raw meat, I was sickened. When I see you wearing fur, and using it as a fashion statement, the fact that defenseless animials have been killed so you can get your picture in the press is abhorrent to me. Shouldn't you be teaching your 'little monster' fans to respect animals and life?"
Kelly quickly told People that she was actually a fan of Gaga's and she had no control over what her mother wanted to tell people, noting, "She can do whatever she wants."
Some hatchets just don't stay buried.
