But E! News has learned that David Wilson was arrested while purchasing a last-minute holiday gift and spent time in jail on Dec. 24, three weeks before his death.
"He was buying last-minute things for Christmas, getting ready to have Christmas Eve dinner, and forgot something while in the line and the store was closing," a close family friend tells E! News. "They told him he couldn't get some silver ribbon; he kind of gave a little attitude and freaked out, and they arrested him and left the truck in the parking lot."
"He was kind of person who couldn't handle a lot of stress," the source says. "There was something unusual going on for something like that to happen, because it isn't like him."
Heber Springs Police Department records show he spent brief amount of time in jail for the misdemeanor disorderly conduct offense, but was released later that evening after paying a $225 bond. A copy of Wilson's arrest report was requested but declined because the investigation into his cause of death is still ongoing.
According to the Cleburne County District Court, Wilson's first hearing was scheduled for Feb. 12. However, the case has been closed by "abatement by death" and removed from the court calendar, Cleburne County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Holly Meyer told E! News.
McCready, who has a 9-month-old son with her late boyfriend, told NBC News point-blank that she did not shoot Wilson. "Oh my God, no. Oh my God, no," she said. "I've never gone through anything this painful, nor will I ever again go through anything as painful."
