Piers Morgan Hit With Deportation Petition Over Anti-Gun Remarks Following Sandy Hook Shooting

CNN host under fire for advocating for stronger gun-control laws in the wake of the Newtown tragedy that left 26 dead

Piers Morgan has become the target of pro-gun activists.

The outspoken CNN host and British national is at the center of a growing petition demanding that he be deported following anti-gun comments he's made in the wake of the Newtown tragedy.

The petition, which was posted on the White House's website and now has close to 70,000 signatures, argues that "British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment."

It also demands that Morgan "be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens."

Per Reuters, the White House is obligated to issue a response if a petition posted on its website garners 25,000 signature within 30 days. The missive against Morgan was posted on Dec. 21 by a person from Austin, Texas, identified as "Kurt N."

In the aftermath of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Morgan has been a vocal supporter of more stringent gun-control laws, firing up a charged debate on Twitter while blasting pro-gun guests on his show

Minutes after news of the shootings broke, the 47-year-old tweeted, "Why does any civilian in America need a weapon that can fire 100 rounds of ammunition at rapid speed?" He also insisted that the "only way forward for America is a national gun policy, same (much tougher) laws for everyone. No assault weapons for civilians, period."

Morgan also reportedly blasted a pro-gun advocate who appeared on his show as "dangerous" and an "idiot."
