This news comes as the 67-year-old antivirus software pioneer continues to be held by Guatemalan police and faces possible extradition to Belize. Authorities want to question him in the shooting death of one of his neighbors there.
McAfee, who has denied any involvement in last month's slaying, is fighting to avoid being sent back to Belize.
"There is no hope for my life if I am ever returned to Belize," he said during a livestream from the Guatemalan detention center, adding that he hoped to return to the United States.
"He's a brilliant man who has had an interesting life," Impact Future Media cofounder Brian Fitzgerald tells E! News. " He's done a lot of things. But there is a lot of stuff out there about him that isn't true. It's just way for him to regain control of his life and let people know who he really is."
A statement was also posted to the company's website about how excited they were to be working with McAfee.
"Mr. McAfee has entrusted us with his life story, and that is a responsibilty we take very seriously," the company said. "We will work tirelessly to make certain that his story is shared with the proper industry partners."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fitzgerald is currently looking for investors for the project tentatively titled Running in the Backgounrd: The True Story of John McAfee.
Time will tell how McAfee's story actually ends.
