Ah, the holidays. The time of year when you can finally gather all of your family and friends…and deal with the inevitable tensions that arise from having them all under one roof.

Luckily, Matt Damon stopped by NBC's Today show on Tuesday to share some straightforward advice on avoiding some of the season's stickiest situations.

Are you tired of buying a present for that person you barely talk to anymore? Damon suggests sending a card with the message "Really?" written inside. Boom. Problem solved.

Or perhaps you're anxious about breaking up with someone during the holidays? After all, no one likes to spend the season solo. Damon's advice? Get it over with. There's no point in dragging the process out.

Make sure to watch the video for more gems, (and to hear New York Times Social Qs columnist Philip Galanes' more diplomatic approach to some of these scenarios).
