Hollywood gathered together to honor some not-so-familiar faces Sunday night
Anderson Cooper hosted the sixth annual CNN Heroes: An All Star Tribute at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, which recognizes people from all over the world with their individual heroic stories, and for 2012, it was all about Pushpa Basnet of Kathmandu, Nepal, who was presented with the CNN "Hero of the Year" award by Susan Sarandon.
When she was only 21, Basnet started the Early Childhood Development Center, and since 2005, she has provided housing, education, and medical care to more than 140 children of incarcerated parents. With this honor, Basnet received $50,000 in recognition of her work (along with the other top 10 heroes), but the Early Childhood Development Center got an additional $250,000 grant for getting the top spot.
Stars 50 Cent, Maria Bello, Adrien Brody, Viola Davis, Josh Duhamel, Jeff Gordon, Cullen Jones, Jane Lynch, Susan Sarandon, and Rainn Wilson presented other heroes with awards, while David Spade, Rico Rodriguez and Miranda Cosgrove honored three "Young Wonders," children who have made a difference in their communities.
Additionally, Ne-Yo performed his hit "Heroes" (how appropriate), and American Idol winner Phillip Phillips sang—wait for it—"Home."
