Don't be surprised if ya see How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor singing and dancing on a New York City stage some day.

While the funny man has already done a turn on Broadway (opposite Kathleen Turner and Alicia Silverstone in The Graduate, no less), a musical would be new for him…

He was recently in NYC taking part in a workshop of a new musical from Avenue Q co-writer Robert Lopez and his wife, Kristen.

"It's called Up Here," Radnor told me at the Taste of Wailea event at the Maui Film Festival, where he hosted a screening of his writing and directorial debut, happythankyoumoreplease. "It's a boy-girl romance [and] the guy's consciousness is acted out by a chorus of singers and dancers...It's really smart."

He added, "I really enjoyed it, so we'll see what happens."

Radnor is also working on a new movie script. "I'm about a third of the way into it," he said. "It's about a guy who's realizing how old he is, but that's all I'll say."

I had to ask Radnor what he thought about being described in a Maui News article about his happythankyoumoreplease, as a "young, attractive Woody Allen, only warmer and without the whining."

"Where was that—The JoshRadnor.com Daily, written by Josh Radnor?" he laughed. "Yeah, that's very nice. I think that sounds like a compliment."
