It may have been Oscar weekend, but Bradley Cooper had live theater on his mind.

"Scarlett Johansson is a phenomenal actress," Cooper said of his He's Just Not That Into You costar. "If she ever wants me to do anything with her again, I'll do it. I'd love to do a play with her."

A play is exactly what Cooper hopes to be doing in New York come this fall.

He told me that it looks like he'll be onstage costarring in the upcoming Broadway production of The Understudy, which he first did last summer with Kristen Johnston and Reg Rogers at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts. Cooper made his B'way debut three years ago opposite Julia Roberts in Three Days of Rain.

"I made a pact with myself that every two years, I have to do a play," he said, quickly adding with a laugh, "if I'm lucky to get one."

As of now, unfortunately,  there are no plans for Johannson to be in The Understudy with him.

We caught up with Cooper backstage at the Independent Spirit Awards as he made his way over to Elle magazine's Beach Chic greenroom to check out some Lacoste swag and sign a surfboard to be auctioned off for charity.

Next door, Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson was her usual bubbly and smiley self in the gifting lounge as she scooped up freebies from Palm Pre, Koolaburra boots, Glowelle beauty supplements and even Arm & Hammer toothpaste.
